Is it worth going for a cooking or baking class in Singapore?

Cooking a meal yourself can be such a therapeutic experience, not only that, but being able to cook a good meal on your own has its set of perks such as: being able to customize your own meal according to your liking, being able to cook a healthy meal, being able to save economically, and lastly, being able to bring joy to the lives of others by cooking a meal for them. With more and more cooking and even baking classes in Singapore, one should ask oneself if it is worth going for one of those classes. Therefore, it is important that one asks himself or herself on what he or she wants to achieve out of the cooking class.

If you want to be able to learn how to cook a simple meal for your friends and family, then it would be too extravagant if you would splurge on attending a professional class organized by a Michelin chef. On the other hand, if you are thinking of opening up your own café, then going for a simple cooking class might not be sufficient to help you achieve that goal.

I Want To Set Up a Café

If you desire to set up a café and excel in this industry, then you can consider taking up classes held by industry professionals that even offer you a certification for completing their course. Alternatively, you can also consider going to culinary school so that you will be able to pick up basic cooking skills and eventually advanced cooking skills as well. These classes could really help to jumpstart your culinary career.

Part Time Hobby

If you are looking to invest time and effort to build up your own repertoire of cooking recipes or even utilize this to sell your dishes from time to time, then you can consider taking up a more advanced culinary class. However, we strongly advise that you do the math. For instance, if you wish to sell seasonal pastry once a year, then think about the costing and the potential sales that you can make. Ask yourself if you are able to at least cover back your cost.

On the other hand, if you are simply doing this out of passion, then going to a culinary school or taking up an advanced class might not make much financial sense.

To Satisfy The Basic Need

Lastly, if you are just looking to learn about cooking so that you can satisfy the basic requirement of bringing food to the table each day and you would like to do this economically, then taking up an expensive culinary course might not make perfect financial sense. If the cost savings that you get out of this course does not add up, then you should consider a more budget friendly culinary course.

All in all, do think about the time that you wish to commit to cooking or baking and how willing are you to pay for a cooking class to advance your cooking skills. Also, think about the equipment that you would need to and their costings in order for you to practise what you have learnt from the course.
